Yosemite-Dunderberg Summit Resurveys
July 29 – August 4, 2025
This is a week of scientific survey work in the Dunderberg Peak area. These surveys use the international GLORIA summit survey protocol, which you can find out more about in the Publications and Docs tab. This will be the fifth survey of the peaks, the previous survey taking place in 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019! GLORIA volunteers are botanists, students, research scientists, and alpine plant enthusiasts. If you have high altitude experience or are a reasonably competent botanist, we would love to have you!
Camping
Basecamp for the Dunderberg target region peaks will be at a stunning unnamed lake ("Silverpine Lake") at the base of Dunderberg Peak just north of Mono Lake, accessed via Virginia Lakes Road. A 4WD vehicle will be required for the last stretch to our basecamp. Shuttling to the basecamp is a possibility for those traveling in vehicles not up to the task. One peak will require a drive to the eastern entrance to Yosemite NP where we will park and hike. All meals and personal camping gear will need to be provided by the participant however impromptu pot-lucks are likely. If you are short of a piece of equipment, please send us an email and I am sure that we can find something for you.

There is lake water at camp, but bring plenty of water and containers that you can fill as we go.

Just prior to these surveys some of us will be coming from surveys in the White Mountains and if we finish early there, we will possibly try to tackle Granite Lakes Peak first before arrival at basecamp.

The Peaks
We will be surveying 4 peaks in the area, three of which are along the E ridge of Dunderberg Peak, and the one that is in the Granite Lakes Basin on the edge of Yosemite National Park. Stay tuned for more hiking information!

Price
We ask for a tax-deductible recommended donation of $20 per person per night, and ask you to please make this donation before arrival. Of course, if you are able to donate more to help support students and those who cannot donate, please do! We are very grateful for your generosity and support, year after year. Head over to the donate tab to make your donation.
